Job Title: Senior Birth Tissue Collections Specialist

South Texas Blood & Tissue is an AABB-accredited blood bank seeking a highly skilled Senior Birth Tissue Collections Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Cord Blood department, you will be responsible for coordinating the process for cord blood collections with hospitals, physicians, and Labor and Delivery staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate cord blood collections with hospitals, physicians, and Labor and Delivery staff
  • Participate in cord blood collection and birth tissue collection, performing handling and labeling in accordance with procedures
  • Monitor incoming cord blood units and birth tissue collections, preparing for transport
  • Coordinate and provide educational activities and materials for obstetricians, obstetrical office staff, expectant mothers, and hospital nursing staff on cord blood collection procedures and birth tissue collection procedures
  • Review documentation related to collection and utilize the data management system
  • Maintain adequate levels of disposable supplies and perform informed consent and medical/social history with all donors, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and standards
  • Assist with the development of collection procedures according to applicable AATB, AABB, FACHT, ISO, FDA, and GMP standards
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Texas Operator's Driver's License
  • Texas Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) preferred
  • Five or more years of customer service experience
  • Three or more years of job-specific experience, preferably in Labor and Delivery, sterile techniques, cord blood and birth tissue collections
