Position Summary:
We are seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to enhance our expanding interconnection team. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in power systems and a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between distributed generation and existing distribution and sub-transmission systems. This role will be pivotal in our Transmission Prospecting campaigns, working closely with internal teams including interconnection, project development, and finance to pinpoint potential photovoltaic sites, define prospecting strategies, and conduct transmission analyses for our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the regional Planning Engineer across multiple ISO territories.
  • Guide developers in navigating the Transmission network to identify system capacity and optimal interconnection locations.
  • Create Transmission Network Models utilizing tools such as PSSE, TARA, or similar software.
  • Conduct Transmission System analyses, including Power Flow, Stability, and Reactive Power Compensation.
  • Review utility impact studies and challenge methodologies when necessary.
  • Assist project developers in assessing potential project sites for feasibility and necessary network upgrades.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to achieving both short- and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Exhibit knowledge of T&D protective relay schemes.
Qualifications:

While no single candidate will meet every qualification, the successful applicant will likely possess many of the following attributes:
  • Over 3 years of experience in power engineering, particularly in transmission planning.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of transmission system impacts related to the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER) and knowledge of engineering solutions to address these challenges.
  • Familiarity with T&D protective relay schemes.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and a genuine drive for success.
  • Experience with power systems modeling software such as PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, SKM/ETAP, Aspen, etc.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
