Job Summary

The Fayette County Community Action Agency is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nutritionist to join our team. As a Nutritionist, you will be responsible for delivering nutrition assessment and education services for the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program. This role also supports breastfeeding education initiatives and conducts community outreach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides nutrition assessment for WIC clients and educates them on proper nutrition
  • Conducts client health screenings (including anthropometrics and hemoglobin testing) during intake and throughout the program
  • Manages nutrition education and assessment for high-risk clients
  • Provides technical assistance to WIC staff to ensure compliance with program policies and regulations
  • Engages in outreach activities aimed at expanding program participation
  • Meets with clinicians and social service providers to educate them on WIC referral processes and available services
  • Performs eligibility certification in accordance with Federal and State regulations (assessing residency, financial eligibility, and nutrition risk)
  • Maintains client files including growth charts for infants and children and weight grids for pregnant women
  • Refers clients to other support services via interactions with community agencies
  • Develops and distributes nutrition education materials
  • Prepares and presents nutrition education/training topics to appropriate audiences
  • Maintains client records and files in accordance with program guidelines
  • Assists in WIC related special projects and/or pilot projects
Requirements
  • Nutritionist (bachelor's master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a major in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or a degree in another health science field such as Public Health or Home Economics with a minor in Nutrition. Registered Nurses with appropriate nutrition coursework and education may also be eligible)
  • Experience providing nutrition education and consultation services preferred
  • Experience developing and delivering training in a classroom or one-on-one setting
  • Experience in case documentation and file maintenance

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperation with clients
  • Ability to protect client confidentiality in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Ability to communicate with clients who may have learning disabilities or barriers to understanding
  • Ability to communicate well via telephone
  • Ability to plan and organize daily work
  • Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
Computer Skills
  • Intermediate MS Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using customer relationship management systems to track client interactions preferred
Additional Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Must have reliable transportation to facilitate outreach visits
Key Performance Measures
  • Meets project goals for number of clients served throughout the contract period
  • Expands program participation via outreach (i.e., visits to clinicians and partnerships with social service agencies)
  • Maintain above average client ratings on customer/client surveys
  • Successfully develops and delivers nutrition training per project plan
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in an office or clinical setting. Travel to outreach and satellite clinics is required. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift program and training materials (not more than 20 lbs). Some light lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling required to move materials and set up services. Requires manual dexterity to use a keyboard and enter client/business information.
