Position Overview: This role involves performing designated tasks to assist in the delivery of patient care and the daily operations of the Nursing Unit, adhering to established nursing policies and procedures.
As a Patient Care Support Specialist, you will provide care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Ability to maintain and update computer competencies as required for the position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of recent experience in a clinical environment providing direct patient care, or completion of/enrollment in a health-related program that includes Nursing Care Assistant skills such as taking vital signs, monitoring intake and output, assisting with feeding, and bathing.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient care including basic hygiene, comfort, safety measures, nutrition, and elimination needs, as well as simple treatments and procedures, vital signs, weights, glucose monitoring, and mobility, using appropriate tools and body mechanics suitable for the patient population.
- Accurately receive and communicate patient information; identify when to report information to the nurse.
- Orient patients and their significant others to the unit and patient room upon admission and throughout their stay.
- Respond to call lights and conduct purposeful rounding in a timely manner to ensure patient and family needs are met.
- Document assigned tasks in accordance with unit policies and procedures.
- Clean all patient equipment as per policy, tag defective equipment, and notify the appropriate department for repairs.
- Act efficiently in emergency situations.
- Prepare and/or transport patients and perform courier duties as needed.
- Restock and ensure adequate supplies for patient care.
- Monitor and record temperature logs as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized nursing unit, hallway, and utility room.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to or over 50 pounds.
Working Environment:
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, latex, and radiation.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple aspects of a situation simultaneously.
- Efficiency in processing verbal information, whether written or spoken, is essential.
- Some independent thought, planning, or origination of options and solutions is necessary.
- Ability to apply reasoning and problem-solving principles to resolve practical issues and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
