Patient Care Support Specialist

Position Overview: This role involves executing designated responsibilities to support patient care and the daily functioning of the Nursing Unit, adhering to established nursing protocols and guidelines. The individual will deliver patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
2. Capability to maintain and update computer skills as required for the role
Experience:
1. A minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in a clinical environment providing direct patient care, or completion of, or current enrollment in, a health-related program that has equipped the individual with Nursing Care Assistant skills, such as taking vital signs, managing intake and output, assisting with feeding, and providing bathing assistance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
1. Certification as a Nursing Assistant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health
Core Responsibilities: The following statements are intended to outline the general nature of the work performed by individuals in this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties.
1. Provide and assist with patient care, including basic hygiene, comfort, support, safety measures, nutritional needs, and elimination needs, as well as simple treatments and procedures, vital signs, weights, glucose monitoring, and mobility, using appropriate tools and body mechanics suitable for the patient demographics.
2. Accurately receive and communicate patient information; recognize when to escalate or report information to the nurse.
3. Orient patients and significant others to the unit and patient room upon admission and continuously thereafter.
4. Respond to call lights and perform purposeful rounding in a timely and appropriate manner to ensure patient and family needs are met.
5. Document assigned tasks in accordance with unit policies and procedures.
6. Clean all patient equipment as per policy, tag defective equipment, and notify the appropriate department for repairs.
7. Perform efficiently in emergency situations, such as Code 68 and Code Yellow.
8. Prepare and/or transport patients and carry out courier duties for the department, including interunit transfers.
9. Restock and ensure the availability of adequate supplies for patient care, including isolation supplies and linens, as per unit requirements.
10. Monitor and record temperature logs according to unit standards.
11. Maintain a tidy and organized nursing unit, hallway, and utility room.
12. Other duties as assigned.
