Job Summary

This position plays a vital role in the delivery of patient care and the daily operation of the Nursing Unit at WVU Medicine. As a Nursing Care Assistant/Clinical Resource Center and Nursing Float Pool Specialist, you will provide support to Registered Nurses and contribute to the provision of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse, including basic hygiene, comfort, support, and safety measures, nutrition and elimination needs, simple treatments and procedures, vital signs, weights, glucose monitoring, and mobility.
  • Communicate patient information accurately and recognize when to call or report information to the nurse.
  • Orient patients and their significant others to the unit and patient room upon admission and ongoing.
  • Answer call lights and perform purposeful rounding to ensure patient and family needs are being met.
  • Document assigned tasks according to policy and procedures of the unit.
  • Clean all patient equipment as per policy, tag defective equipment, and notify the appropriate department for repair.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency situations, such as Code 68 and Code Yellow.
  • Prepare and/or transport patients and perform courier duties for the department.
  • Restock and ensure adequate supplies for patient care, such as isolation supplies, linen, etc.
  • Monitor and record temperature logs according to unit.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly nursing unit, hallway, and utility room.
Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to/over 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, latex, and radiation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pennsylvania Department of Health Nursing Assistant Certification.
