Position Summary:

The Audit Manager-QA at Byrne Dairy Inc. plays a crucial role in overseeing internal evaluations of operational programs and processes to guarantee satisfaction among customers, team members, and vendors. This position entails designing and executing operational audits of facilities, processes, and documentation to ensure compliance with internal standards, regulatory mandates, and industry best practices, specifically in the context of dairy product manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute a thorough audit schedule for all manufacturing, packaging, and distribution facilities to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulatory bodies, including the USDA and FDA, as well as quality standards such as PMO and SQF.
  2. Conduct internal audits throughout various stages of production, from raw material receipt to processing, packaging, and distribution.
  3. Provide training and support to facility personnel regarding quality standards, audit protocols, and regulatory compliance.
  4. Prepare comprehensive audit reports detailing findings, non-conformities, and recommendations for corrective actions, and present these findings to senior management for informed decision-making.
  5. Maintain meticulous records of audit activities, ensuring all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to formulate and implement corrective and preventive measures based on audit outcomes.
  7. Evaluate the effectiveness of current quality control measures and identify potential risks or areas for enhancement.
  8. Assess adherence to company quality standards, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), and relevant regulatory requirements.
  9. Verify the effectiveness of CAPAs through follow-up audits and continuous monitoring.
  10. Assist with external audits and inspections by regulatory agencies or certification bodies.
  11. Act as a subject matter expert on regulatory requirements related to ESL and Aseptic processing, offering guidance to internal teams.
  12. Ensure compliance with GMPs, SOPs, and corporate policies and regulations.
  13. Promote a safe working environment by reporting safety concerns promptly and taking necessary corrective actions.
  14. Address food safety issues proactively and support SQF by maintaining food safety and quality standards.
  15. Ensure work areas are sanitary and adhere strictly to sanitation protocols.
  16. Facilitate effective communication between shifts and departments.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to effectively manage job tasks.
  2. Respond appropriately to inquiries from employees, vendors, and customers.
  3. Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English to perform job functions effectively.
  4. Familiarity with the company's mission, objectives, and your role in achieving them.
  5. Ability to operate facility equipment as required in the assigned area.
  6. Complete all company training requirements satisfactorily.
  7. Interpret company documents and UPC/code information accurately.
  8. Knowledge of PMO, SQF, and other food safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in food science, Microbiology, Quality Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in quality assurance or auditing within the food manufacturing sector, particularly in dairy or aseptic processing.
  3. Comprehensive understanding of GMP, HACCP, and pertinent food safety regulations.
  4. Experience with ESL and Aseptic processing technologies and quality control practices.
  5. Proficient in quality management systems (QMS) and audit software tools.
  6. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple audits and projects concurrently.
  7. Certification in quality auditing (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Auditor) is advantageous.

Performance Expectations:

  1. Report to work at scheduled times and communicate any tardiness or absences to the assigned Supervisor/Manager in advance.
  2. Arrive at work in a condition ready to perform duties.
  3. Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with business and position-appropriate attire, including compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  4. Adhere to performance criteria and standards of conduct as outlined in company policy and the employee handbook.
  5. Maintain a safe work environment and promptly report and address any safety concerns.
  6. Complete all assigned tasks and responsibilities diligently.

Work Schedule:

  1. Availability for morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts as assigned.
  2. Requests for time off must be communicated in advance and approved by Supervisor/Manager.
  3. Salaried position generally requires 40-45 hours per week; additional hours may be necessary based on business needs.

Environmental Considerations:

  1. Work environment is typically protected from weather and temperature changes, though exposure to varying conditions may occur.
  2. Potential exposure to ingredients used in food manufacturing, including allergens.
  3. Possible exposure to chemicals used in food processing and sanitation.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to travel to various manufacturing, packaging, and distribution facilities as needed (up to 50% travel within a limited area).
  2. Capable of moving throughout all areas of the facility, including office, production, and warehouse environments.
  3. Able to wear necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  4. Physically capable of standing or sitting for extended periods and performing job functions for a full shift with a meal break.
  5. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier objects with reasonable accommodations.
  6. Visual acuity must be sufficient to perform job functions effectively.
