Job Responsibilities

As a maintenance laborer, your duties will include:

• Responding to urgent roadway conditions and severe weather situations to prepare and operate machinery for snow and ice removal, as well as addressing other hazardous road conditions.

• Participating in work zone training, setting up work zones, and executing traffic control measures.

• Demonstrating effective work site protection methods: identifying safety hazards, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment, and staying informed about safety regulations and proper equipment usage.

• Collaborating as a team member to perform manual labor tasks, which may involve clearing drainage systems, maintaining the Right of Way, cutting vegetation, patching potholes, and completing various road maintenance projects.

• Conducting pre-trip inspections of equipment and performing routine maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

You may be considered minimally qualified if you possess:

• Knowledge of safety protocols, materials, and procedures.

• Familiarity with highway maintenance materials and techniques.

• Capability to perform strenuous manual labor, including frequently lifting weights up to 50 lbs.

• Proficiency in operating and maintaining various hand and power tools.

• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and respond to emergencies, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

• A valid Driver's License and the ability to travel independently to various work locations.

Additional Considerations

Preferred qualifications include:

• A valid CDL Learner's Permit.

• Experience operating light to medium-duty equipment relevant to roadway and roadside maintenance or construction activities.

• Background in performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.

• Experience in emergency operations, including snow removal, work zone setup, flagging, and storm cleanup.

This is an hourly/wage position and does not include a state benefits package, with a limit of 1500 hours within a 12-month period.

If chosen as a finalist, you will undergo:
- Employment reference checks and verification of work history
- DMV Records Check
- Fingerprint-based criminal history records check

Additionally, for CDL holders:
- Full Query drug and alcohol history in FMCSA Clearinghouse – Registration required.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Federal DOT pre-employment physical examination.

This position also requires approved safety footwear (this is a reimbursable expense).
