Description
The objective of this role is to be attentive and responsive to community concerns within our Parks and Trails System, ensuring support for our Citizens, City Divisions, Property Owners, and Businesses.
This position operates under general supervision, independently establishing work methods and sequences.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Engagement: Actively patrols assigned parks and trails, providing various support services to the public; Foster relationships with visitors, local residents, and stakeholders to disseminate information and assist in resolving issues.
- Collaboration: Work alongside all divisions within Parks, Recreation, and Special Events, as well as the local Police Department and other entities to execute engagement strategies for the parks and trails.
- Communication: Serve as a liaison between the City and the Community.
- Maintenance and Cleanliness: Identify and address litter removal on trails, rights-of-ways, and within designated parks; manage graffiti removal and maintain cleanliness of sidewalks; oversee the opening and closing of parks, playgrounds, and restrooms, along with other minor maintenance tasks to ensure parks and trails remain inviting.
- Monitoring and Reporting: To promote a safe and welcoming atmosphere, the ambassador will utilize technology to collect data and track daily activities, communicate with relevant staff based on observations, and report hazards or inappropriate behaviors to the appropriate personnel.
- Customer Service: Proactively acknowledge and engage with trail users and park visitors; Provide directions, maps, and information to tourists and residents; Continuously patrol areas to offer assistance and resources; Document complaints and provide solutions as necessary.
- Professional Conduct: Maintain a positive and professional demeanor in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards set by the City of Spartanburg.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
- One (1) year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid South Carolina driver's license.
Physical demands involve light work that includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, walking, or standing for extended periods, with the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force regularly.
Work Environment:
The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings; the employee may encounter various environmental conditions, including noise, chemicals, and other potential hazards.
