Position Overview:

At Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group, the Senior Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA) role is designed for those who excel as clinical leaders and scholars at the Expert level of Benner's model of clinical practice, adhering to the standards set by the Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, discerning both normal and abnormal health indicators.
  • Develop and implement tailored care plans, initiating necessary interventions and evaluating patient outcomes within a designated population.
  • Utilize advanced communication skills to advocate for patients and their families, while mentoring and guiding clinical staff in best practices.
  • Engage in system-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety and quality of care.
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with physicians and management to ensure compliance with HR policies during the evaluation process.
  • Lead educational initiatives for professional students in partnership with department Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  • Offer clinical guidance to administrative and operational teams, fostering a collaborative environment with patients and families.
  • Drive improvements in patient satisfaction through peer accountability and adherence to service standards.

Quality and Safety Functions:

  • Oversee care rounds to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Manage complex patient assignments and departmental demands, conducting regular service line rounds.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance patient care quality and safety, aligning with organizational objectives.
  • Participate in shared governance and interprofessional team activities to refine practice standards and protocols.

Professional Development:

  • Mentor colleagues in evidence-based practice and performance improvement projects.
  • Identify educational needs and implement training programs for the unit or department.
  • Encourage innovative ideas that enhance service quality and address departmental priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant studies from accredited programs.
  • Active Texas licensure as an RN and APRN, or certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Demonstrated management experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in English, with strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and team members.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office and adapt to new software as needed.
