Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic I to join our team at Georgetown University. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing preventive and maintenance trade work for maintaining building systems, equipment, and related components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and skilled preventative maintenance and repair of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and snow removal.
  • Develop skills in installing, fabricating, constructing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Receive work assignments and plan work to be performed, obtaining necessary tools, equipment, and materials as well as completing assignments in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the monitoring of contractors, inspecting work and generating deficiency lists.
  • Perform snow removal and emergency services through inclement weather and University emergencies.
  • Respond to all building system emergencies as directed, understanding community emergency procedures and ensuring the safety of Georgetown Law students, faculty, and staff.
  • Drive University vehicles when required, following all driving procedures.
  • Serve on various shifts and occasionally work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate building coverage and perform necessary repairs.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Four years of building maintenance experience
  • Must be graduate of a vocational or technical trade school or equivalent training
  • Must have a Universal CFC certification
  • Must have valid driver's license in Virginia, Maryland, or District of Columbia
  • Must be qualified to conform with University Driving Policy
Work Environment

This position is considered an emergency position and requires the ability to lift and carry minimum of 50 lbs. to heavy items; to walk, climb stairs, able to work on scaffolds, lifts and ladders over 12 feet in length, bend and crouch, and to reach and pull to work on equipment.
