POSITION SUMMARY:

The Income Tax Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the tax compliance process for a corporate-owned partnership with operations across multiple states. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring accurate and timely filing of federal and state income tax returns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepare and scrutinize general ledger trial balances, making necessary adjustments for the annual federal and state partnership income tax returns in collaboration with an external CPA firm.

2. Develop income tax return forms and schedules to be submitted by the external CPA firm alongside the annual federal and state partnership income tax returns.

3. Compute annual multi-state apportionment factors and percentages.

4. Assess state income tax adjustments for the partnership's state income tax returns, currently filed in numerous states and municipalities.

5. Conduct a thorough review of the federal and state income tax returns prepared by the external CPA firm.

6. Calculate and prepare annual state partnership withholding forms for corporate partners, ensuring compliance with state withholding requirements.

7. Review the partnership income tax return and related tax filings for minority investments in U.S. partnerships.

8. Prepare and coordinate the payment of income tax estimates and extensions for both Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions.

9. Assist the Senior Income Tax Manager with the preparation of Canadian and Mexican income tax returns and related schedules.

10. Address and respond to tax notices as required.

11. Research and analyze new federal, state, and local income tax laws and proposed legislation to ensure compliance.

12. Support the Senior Income Tax Manager in the annual income tax provision and quarterly tax provision calculations for audited financial statements.

13. Collaborate with the Senior Income Tax Manager on various projects as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with SAP and/or OneNote is advantageous
  • Ability to maintain focus for extended periods

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

A CPA certification along with 3 to 5 years of experience in corporate and/or partnership federal and multi-state income tax compliance is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role is primarily office-based, with a moderate noise level from computers, printers, and colleagues.
