Job Summary

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine seeks a visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. As a key member of the School of Medicine's leadership team, the successful candidate will provide strategic direction and oversight for the department's academic, research, and clinical programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and vision for the Department of Neurosurgery, aligning with the School of Medicine's mission and strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement departmental strategic plans, ensuring alignment with university and school priorities.
  • Lead and manage the department's faculty, staff, and students, fostering a culture of excellence, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Oversee the department's academic programs, including curriculum development, teaching, and assessment.
  • Lead the department's research efforts, promoting innovation, collaboration, and external funding.
  • Develop and manage the department's clinical programs, ensuring high-quality patient care and service.
  • Collaborate with other departments and units within the School of Medicine and the university to advance the school's mission and goals.
  • Represent the department and the School of Medicine in external forums, promoting the university's reputation and interests.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold an MD, MD-PhD, DO, or equivalent medical degree and be board-certified in Neurosurgery or a Neurosurgery subspecialty. A minimum of five years of administrative and leadership experience in an academic institution is required. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in New Mexico and eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred qualifications include a proven track record of leadership in academic medicine, experience in managing complex clinical, research, and educational enterprises, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
