About the Department

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine is a leading academic department in the field of neurosurgery. With a strong focus on clinical service, research, and education, the department is committed to providing the highest quality care to patients and advancing the field of neurosurgery through innovative research and education.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Department of Neurosurgery
  • Lead the department in advancing clinical service, research, and education
  • Collaborate with the Dean of the School of Medicine and other leaders to create excellence in teaching, research, and clinical programs
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to position the department for growth and success
Requirements
  • MD, MD-PhD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Board-certified in Neurosurgery or a Neurosurgery subspecialty
  • Demonstrated expertise appropriate for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine
  • At least five years of administrative and leadership experience in an academic institution
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical service and leadership
  • Experience in managing a complex clinical, research, and educational enterprise
  • Proven leader in academic medicine with a national reputation
  • Track record of involvement in working with communities to increase healthcare access and reduce health disparities
