We're seeking an experienced Medical Science Liaison to join our team and contribute to this mission.
About the Role
This role entails developing and maintaining relationships with key medical experts in the rare disease community. You'll collaborate with physicians to support clinical development initiatives and work on medical affairs projects. Your scientific expertise will enable you to provide guidance to internal stakeholders and communicate clinical insights to Apellis Medical Affairs.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key medical experts in the rare disease community
- Supporting clinical development initiatives such as site identification, trial recruitment, and data presentation
- Collaborating with physicians on medical affairs initiatives like publications, advisory boards, and medical education opportunities
- Serving as a trusted scientific resource to external and internal stakeholders
- Providing up-to-date medical information, robust disease expertise, and product knowledge to the medical community
- Communicating clinical insights to inform Apellis Medical Affairs and drive strategic decision-making
- Delivering high-quality training to internal stakeholders on key scientific and medical topics
- Gaining a deep understanding of the regional landscape and its implications for patient care
- Maintaining effective communication among internal stakeholders while adhering to regulatory requirements
- Developing tactical regional plans to deliver value-added support to the medical and scientific community
- Utilizing systems to identify, profile, and prioritize thought leaders aligned with the medical plan and goals
- Ensuring accurate reporting and documentation of MSL activities
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as chemistry, biology, or pharmacy
- Advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs or Medical Science
- Proven track record of supporting rare disease drug development; prior hematology and nephrology experience a plus
- Demonstrated expertise in establishing and maintaining relationships with KOLs in the rare disease community
- Strong understanding of compliance considerations and ability to work compliantly in a field-based role
