About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sports Dietitian to join our team. As a Sports Dietitian, you will be responsible for assessing and analyzing dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of athletes to optimize their performance and health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of athletes to optimize their performance and health.
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity, and disorder eating.
  • Develop and implement personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health.
  • Manage nutritional bar area in SLU athletics department.
  • Develop and counsel in hydration protocols.
  • Address nutritional challenges to performance, such as food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion, and iron-deficiency anemia.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy, as needed, to help manage or treat medical conditions.
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for recovery from illness or injury.
  • Coordinate nutritional care as a member of multidisciplinary sports medicine teams.
  • Provide liaison with in- and out-patient programs for conditions such as disordered eating.
  • Evaluate nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy; monitor use of appropriate supplementation.
  • Collaborate with the individual's family, physician, coach, and other health professionals, as appropriate.
  • Develop resources to support educational efforts.
  • Educate in food selection (grocery store tours, food storage) and food preparation (cooking classes).
  • Document nutrition services provided and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes using the Nutrition Care Process.
  • Educate and mentor dietetic interns and others as appropriate.
  • Supervise DTRs, student workers, and employees.
  • Develop and oversee nutrition policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate/manages quantity food production and distribution such as developing and managing training table menus and catering.
  • Coordinates nutrition for domestic and/or international travel, for example, catering, hotels, airlines, competition, for individuals and teams.
  • Manages budgets for purchasing and distributing of nutritional supplements.
  • Develops and delivers nutrition education for food service personnel.
  • Develops and delivers nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance.
  • Plans menus for training table and team travel.
  • Recommends appropriate pre-, during, and post-exercises fluids and snacks for individual training, team practice, and competition.
  • Provides individual nutrition counseling as needed.
  • Serves as nutrition resource for coaches, teachers, trainers, food service personnel, and parents.
  • Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
  • Develops and implements an individualized portfolio plan for professional growth and development including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and development programs.
  • Stays abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
  • Assist with North Oaks Wellness initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; license from LBEDN.
  • Masters preferred. Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with sports dietetics preferred.
Working Conditions:

May sustain muscle strains from lifting or stooping, may slip and fall on a wet floor, may sustain injury from a chemical accident associated with cleaning agents, or contamination from an infectious patient.

Must be alert to recognize hazardous situations and take corrective action or report the hazard to the appropriate authority per hospital policy.
