Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our Imaging Department, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostic radiologic examinations, including CT and DXA scans, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently determine technical factors for diagnostic radiologic examinations, including CT and DXA scans.
  • Operate and maintain digital radiography (DR) systems, CT equipment, and other computer-based equipment.
  • Perform reconstructions for CT scans as requested or as part of a standard protocol.
  • Assess patient limitations and modify procedures as needed to obtain high-quality images.
  • Administer contrast materials under the direction of a radiologist/physician for CT scans and other exams.
  • Routinely assess patients for contraindications for ordered procedures.
  • Receive and interpret imaging requests, coordinating exams to optimize performance and maintain flexibility for emergency cases.
  • Properly identify patient images using identifiers and Left & Right markers.
  • Explain exams and potential hazards to patients, monitoring vital signs and recognizing allergic reactions as needed.
  • Practice radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self.
  • Continually review new developments in radiology, seeking to improve the quality of exams through the use of new technologies.
  • Maintain electronic records of patient studies and statistical reports.
  • Troubleshoot equipment used in diagnostic radiologic procedures and perform minor routine preventative maintenance.
  • Perform quality control procedures, including reject/repeat film analysis and lead apron & glove radiation protection verification.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
  • English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
Work Schedule

Typical work hours are 9:30am-6pm M-F with call/weekend/holiday rotations.
