Job Summary

Shaw Industries is seeking a skilled Plant Hardware Finishing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently handling wood products in the defecting area to maximize production and minimize off-quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rotate among all positions on a consistent basis to ensure a thorough understanding of the production process.
  • Pack 'B' grade boards into cartons and hand-fold cartons for 'B' grade material to maintain quality standards.
  • Visually inspect products for defects and off-quality, and pull boards flush up against the entry wall as needed to prevent damage.
  • Pull out scrap pieces and defecting boards and place them in the dumpster to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Wipe each deck clean of crayon marks, dust, and overspray to ensure a smooth production process.
  • Stain unstained bevels with a stain pen and touch up other areas of the plank with stain pen as long as the area is within spec to maintain quality standards.
  • Inspect the deck for visual defects and pull out if a defect is identified to prevent further damage.
  • Communicate quality or mechanical problems or concerns to defect technicians or lead to ensure prompt resolution.
  • Assist in other areas as requested by the shift supervisor or lead to support the team's goals.
Requirements
  • Bend, squat, and stoop several times a day to perform tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Stand for 8-12 hours a day to maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Climb stairs several times throughout the day to access different areas of the production floor.
  • Assist in lifting up to 65 lbs. several times a day to move heavy materials.
  • Lift 45-50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the day to maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Handle the stress of meeting goals and production requirements to ensure a smooth production process.
  • Recognize various colors to identify defects and off-quality products.
  • Make size judgments to identify which stacks to pile wood boards.
  • Have basic reading, writing, and math ability to perform tasks accurately.
  • Be capable of learning and performing additional operations to support the team's goals.
  • Be trained on current computer systems and software to maintain a high level of productivity.
Working Conditions

This is a 10-hour non-rotating shift position, with hours falling to in punch day. The shift starts in the PM and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
