Position Summary
The Childcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment within the classroom. This position is essential for ensuring that daily operations run seamlessly by providing necessary support to classroom educators, facilitating breaks, and assisting with various tasks throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT:
The Childcare Support Specialist collaborates closely with the Lead Teacher and/or Program Manager to guarantee that the daily activities within the early childhood program are executed effectively. Responsibilities include offering teachers respite, attending meetings in their stead, assisting with transportation when required, replenishing classroom supplies during meal times, and maintaining cleanliness at the start and end of each day.
ACTIVITY SUPERVISION:
Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher and/or Program Manager, the Specialist will oversee children's play and learning activities, encouraging participation in both individual and group settings. Observations of children's behavior will be reported back to the Lead Teacher to ensure appropriate support is provided.
CLASSROOM SANITATION:
The Specialist is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment as directed by the Lead Teacher. End-of-day tasks include sweeping floors, managing waste disposal, ensuring all lights and appliances are turned off, and securing the classroom by locking doors and windows.
FACILITY CARE:
Daily responsibilities may encompass conducting health and safety checks of outdoor play areas, performing minor maintenance tasks, assisting with meal preparation and cleanup in the kitchen, and organizing shared spaces and educational materials.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- A willingness to pursue a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education is essential.
- Prior experience with the developmental needs of infants and toddlers is preferred.
