Core Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering Team - Core
  • Engages and actively participates in all facets of the company's safety and quality initiatives, demonstrating commitment to a zero-injury culture through personal actions and mentoring peers.
  • Completes foundational mechanical, electrical, and field construction tasks.
  • Begins to develop budgetary mechanical/electrical estimates based on program and schematic design information using automated estimating systems.
  • Assists in evaluating mechanical and electrical alternatives during the preconstruction phase and conducts systems analysis for selected projects.
  • Begins to formulate the mechanical and electrical scopes of work for coordination during the bidding process.
  • Contributes to bid analysis and provides input during the selection of subcontractors.
  • Assists in outlining sequencing requirements for various systems and proposes solutions to meet scheduling demands.
  • Gains familiarity with design documents to identify potential quality issues and aid in developing constructability review reports.
  • Participates in job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are fulfilled and work is completed with quality and timeliness.
  • Assists with the shop drawing/submittal process to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Contributes to the commissioning process, including the development of pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures, and actual functional testing.
  • Promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within J.E. Dunn, understanding and implementing the company's non-discrimination policy positively and proactively.
Additional Responsibilities

This position will also entail the following:
  • Completes more complex mechanical, electrical, and field construction tasks.
  • Develops budgetary mechanical/electrical estimates based on program and schematic design information.
  • Reviews mechanical and electrical options, conducts systems analysis, recommends optimal systems for projects, and provides value engineering insights.
  • Coordinates mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bidding phase.
  • Outlines sequencing requirements for various systems and proposes solutions to meet scheduling needs, providing scheduling input during projects.
  • Reviews design documents to identify potential quality issues and assists in developing quality control programs.
  • Conducts job inspections at various project stages to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is performed to a high standard.
  • Develops pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures, verifying contractor performance during functional tests.
  • Reviews and approves shop drawings before submission to the design team.
  • Creates and issues the Commissioning Plan for approval to relevant parties.
  • Ensures deficiencies are rectified and submits commissioning documentation to clients.
  • Mentors less experienced colleagues.
  • Develops mechanical/electrical tools and innovative solutions to enhance processes and work products.
  • Fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion within J.E. Dunn, understanding and ensuring the effective implementation of the company's non-discrimination policy.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and promptly.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to read and comprehend plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Develops proficiency in basic J.E. Dunn construction mechanical/electrical tools and software.
  • Knowledge of construction management methods and practices.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively within a team, both internally and externally.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field (Required).
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in construction and/or engineering (Required).
Working Environment
  • A valid and unrestricted driver's license is required.
