Job Title: Scientific Engineering Technical Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scientific Engineering Technical Manager to join our team at the University of Texas at Arlington. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for supporting faculty research and student projects in a power and energy laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and maintain laboratory space, ensuring cleanliness, tidiness, and safe egress.
  • Assist students in the execution and data collection of sponsored research projects.
  • Operate and maintain high-voltage electrical equipment, including diesel engine/generator sets, electric motor-generator sets, and high-voltage power supplies.
  • Design and fabricate mechanical assemblies using manual and CNC machine tools.
  • Wiring small and medium power systems as instructed by the student researcher.
  • Assist with simple electrical circuit design and testing.
  • Populate printed circuit boards and assist with circuit board fabrication.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering, technology, or related field or a high school education with at least five years of experience working in a laboratory or fabrication facility.
  • Experience in programming and operating CNC mills, maintaining all machines and equipment in the shop, supervising lab and shop operations, and personnel.
  • Familiarity with solid works, MS office tools, and other simple computing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expert machinist and/or laboratory technician with ten years of experience operating manual machine tools and/or CNC machine tools.
  • Capable of maintaining mills and lathes, operating and maintaining various saws, grinder, sanders, sand blaster, shear, and other related equipment.
  • Capable of welding (TIG, MIG, and gas) and experience working with diesel or similar automotive engines.
  • At least five years of laboratory supervisory experience and experience working with students or similar skill level employees.
