Position Summary

This position is based at our Safety Assessment facilities located in various regions.

The Clinical Veterinarian is tasked with delivering expert veterinary services and overseeing the comprehensive health management of our animal populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clinical care to the animal population.
  • Conduct scheduled veterinary rounds, providing essential clinical care and preventive health support.
  • Offer surgical assistance and anesthesia expertise to facilitate protocol development.
  • Develop and provide training for staff in veterinary diagnostics and surgical techniques.
  • Guide veterinary services personnel on animal health care as needed.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports and documentation.
  • Engage in internal and external inspections and quality assurance audits related to veterinary practices.
  • Support the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in protocol and program reviews.
  • Draft, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for veterinary care and necropsy.
  • Conduct literature reviews on veterinary topics.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards concerning animal care and use.
  • Recommend enhancements to veterinary and animal care standards.
  • Manage controlled substances and maintain accurate records.
  • Innovate surgical techniques and procedural improvements as needed.
  • Assist in managing assigned sections, including mentoring junior staff and overseeing scheduling.
  • Participate in special projects and administrative tasks as required.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support various sites within our organization.
  • Provide training on nonhuman primate health and welfare.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) is required.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of relevant experience in animal care and surgical techniques, preferably in a research or laboratory animal environment.
  • Certification: Must hold a valid veterinary license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to practice in the work state being highly desirable. USDA accreditation or application should be submitted within one month of hire.
  • Skills: Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
