About the Role:

Founded in 2021, the Brown Arts Institute (BAI) serves as a university-wide research initiative and a driving force for the arts at Brown. It fosters the creation of new works and enhances the creative practices of the university's arts departments, faculty, students, and the broader community. Through a variety of year-round programming, research-oriented courses, initiatives, collaborations, and partnerships, BAI commissions and showcases new artistic endeavors both on campus and beyond, collaborating with innovative visiting artists and performing arts organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

The Events Coordinator plays a vital role in assisting BAI staff with event logistics and support for activities hosted within BAI venues. Primary responsibilities include:
1. Comprehensive planning to ensure seamless execution of events.
2. On-site management and support during events.
3. Maintenance of spaces and venues.
4. General administrative assistance related to campus facilities.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of experience in event support or a related field.
  • Prior experience in an arts organization or academic environment is preferred.
Essential Skills:
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and cultures.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on long-term planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to various audiences and priorities.
  • Initiative and sound judgment for independent problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Capacity to work autonomously while being an effective team player.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion.
Work Environment:

The Events Coordinator will maintain a flexible schedule based on the needs of BAI events. On non-event days, the standard working hours will be from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM; however, on event days, the schedule will vary and will be communicated at least one week in advance.
