Job Title: Director of Environmental Health and Safety

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Environmental Health and Safety to join our team at J.C. Cannistraro, LLC. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, customers, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive safety program that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify and mitigate hazards, and provide training to employees on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with operations leaders to assess risks and develop plans for new projects, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including crisis management escalation, and ensure that all employees are trained on emergency procedures.
  • Monitor and report on safety metrics, including incident rates, injury frequencies, and near-miss incidents, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and implement training programs for employees on safety procedures, protocols, and best practices, and ensure that all employees are trained on safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and clients to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local regulatory agents and respond to any concerns they may have.
  • Participate in regulatory and customer inspections and represent company standards.
  • Chair the Safety Committee and manage the budget for health and safety programs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in safety or occupational safety or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in construction, manufacturing, or industrial safety.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal safety regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction legal compliance (OSHA).
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent grammar and writing skills.
  • Strong supervision skills.
  • Proven ability to lead others.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate employees and communicate objectives and action plans.
  • Ability to research pertinent facts, data, and other information from internal and external sources.
  • Proficient use of computer and corresponding programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proven strong ability to use various applications including databases and systems.
  • Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to improve/maintain safety performance.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand for prolonged periods of time, walk jobsites, regularly climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The position may require lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Due to the environmental conditions of working jobsites, including our warehouse and fabrication facilities, there is sufficient noise that may cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise levels.
