POSITION SUMMARY:

The Attorney/Trial Attorney, under close supervision, is responsible for representing and defending clients accused of criminal activities, particularly focusing on juvenile cases. This role involves reviewing family law cases for legal adequacy and litigating enforcement actions related to family law. The position may also encompass appellate work across these areas.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Juris Doctor degree is required.

Licenses and Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid license to practice law in Texas and remain in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Depending on the assignment, a valid driver's license is also required, with an acceptable driving record.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Attorney will:

  • Conduct thorough legal research and stay updated on legal developments.
  • Review legal records and documents to gather pertinent information for cases.
  • Draft various legal documents, including briefs, motions, and subpoenas.
  • Manage communication with the public, providing general information as needed.
  • Prepare cases for trial, including the organization of evidence and legal materials.
  • Engage with clients regularly, maintaining contact through visits and correspondence.
  • Represent indigent clients charged with criminal offenses, ensuring their rights are upheld throughout the judicial process.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including social workers and community agencies, to provide comprehensive representation.
  • Attend training sessions to enhance professional skills and knowledge.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position reports to the Trial Team Chief and does not have supervisory responsibilities. Interaction with various legal and community entities is required to fulfill job duties effectively.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the court system is essential. Candidates should possess strong research and communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and the capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
