Job Details

RAICES is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Attorney to join our Asylum Access Services team. As a Staff Attorney, you will play a critical role in representing individuals and families seeking asylum and immigration relief.



About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires working remotely and in-office at our assigned work location. The ideal candidate will be adaptable and open to working in both environments. We are looking for someone who is passionate about advocating for immigrant rights and has a strong commitment to our mission.



Responsibilities
  • Provide direct representation to a large caseload of individuals and/or families in immigration matters, including asylum and immigration court proceedings.
  • Conduct thorough immigration screenings for consultees to assess for immigration relief and provide explanation of their rights and available options.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as the Litigation Unit, the RAICES Bond Fund, and the Social Programs and Advocacy Department, to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of case data and contribute to grant reporting as applicable.
  • Supervise case work of assigned Legal Assistants, Senior Legal Assistants, Interns, or other non-legal staff as applicable.
  • Represent RAICES in community presentations, outreach, workshops, stakeholder meetings, and/or media interviews.
  • Provide pro se assistance to prospective clients.


Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Current bar membership in good standing within the United States.
  • Barred in Texas is preferred, but may be required if specified to meet Grant Requirements.
  • Grant requirements may include bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency.
  • Able to pass a Federal Background Check.
