We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University. This position requires a strong understanding of electronics manufacturing technologies and the ability to work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to identify and address manufacturing problems of military customers.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of electronics manufacturing technologies, including semiconductor device and integrated circuit manufacturing, microelectronics and packaging, printed circuit board and printed circuit board assembly manufacturing, RF and MMW electronics manufacturing, and DoD electronic systems. They will also have experience in leading technology development programs and identifying technology needs and creating technology transition/implementation plans.
The Electronics Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for performing research and development tasks in electronics manufacturing, supporting the Electronics Manufacturing Center of Excellence leaders to develop and maintain a compelling vision for electronics manufacturing technology efforts, and executing and developing technical strategies expanding the use of electronics in defense platforms and weapon system manufacturers.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline and five years of related experience. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred. The candidate should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational and planning skills, and the ability to lead diverse technical teams and perform independent work.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform research and development tasks in electronics manufacturing
- Support the Electronics Manufacturing Center of Excellence leaders to develop and maintain a compelling vision for electronics manufacturing technology efforts
- Execute and develop technical strategies expanding the use of electronics in defense platforms and weapon system manufacturers
- Maintain familiarity with leading edge electronics technology and manufacturing techniques
- Assist in new concept development and analyze alternatives independently
- Author technical documents and reports, brief proposed/ongoing projects, and capabilities
- Document work in memoranda, sponsor briefs, conference proceedings, and journal articles
- Develop project plans for new projects, working with stakeholders both internal and external
- Manage projects of small or moderate size and scope, making substantial contributions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
- Five years of related experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational and planning skills
- Ability to lead diverse technical teams and perform independent work
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Significant role in the development of electronics architectures, systems, protocols, devices, media, and integration
- Stage gate processes experience
- Familiarity with emerging electronic technologies such as nanoelectronics and heterogeneous integration
- Supply chain management experience
- Business development experience with government customers
- Practical experience with system engineering concepts and methods
- Manufacturing systems experience
- Project management and leadership certification
Work Location:
The work location is at the Electro-Optics & Electronics Division in Freeport, PA. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. You must submit a cover letter of interest and a resume to be considered for this position. Some travel will be required.
