Job Overview
The Patient Care Assistant plays a vital role in supporting patient care across various nursing departments. This position is essential for ensuring the safe transport of patients using wheelchairs or stretchers, managing dispatch services, and maintaining accurate documentation of care provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Support: Provides direct and indirect care to patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. Observes and reports patient data and status to the assigned Registered Nurse.
  • Emergency Response: Reacts promptly to changes in patient acuity and emergency situations as directed by nursing personnel.
  • Professional Growth: Keeps current with knowledge and certifications, including BLS. Acts as a mentor for new staff members and demonstrates the ability to accept constructive feedback.
  • Safety and Quality Assurance: Promotes a culture of safety by verifying patient identities and adhering to safety protocols. Understands individual responsibilities during hospital emergencies and complies with hygiene standards.
  • Technology Proficiency: Utilizes required software applications and understands operational procedures during system downtimes.
  • Compliance: Adheres to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards relevant to the role, safeguarding patient privacy and security.
  • Patient and Family Engagement: Respects and incorporates the values and preferences of patients and their families in care planning and execution.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Recognizes and addresses the diverse needs of patients, utilizing resources such as interpreter services when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant or in a similar role is advantageous.
  • Skills: Basic Life Support certification, familiarity with medical terminology, and basic computer skills are required. Effective communication and documentation abilities are essential.
