Position Overview:

The Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist plays a crucial role in the evaluation and enhancement of patient medical records. This position is responsible for ensuring the precision and completeness of clinical documentation, which is vital for accurate coding and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of patient medical records to assess the specificity of diagnoses and the accuracy of clinician documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with coding standards and documentation requirements, addressing any discrepancies found in the records.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge to formulate and follow up on physician queries, ensuring timely responses while patients are still under care.
  • Monitor and communicate any regulatory changes related to documentation and coding to relevant staff members.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical staff and coding teams to maintain the integrity of clinical information in medical records.
  • Participate in educational sessions to stay updated on best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience.
  • At least two years of experience in clinical documentation.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Required: Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (DIP).
  • Required: Current RN license or equivalent medical provider certification.
  • Required: Foreign Medical Doctor (FMD) or Medical Doctor (MD) license.
