Job Summary

The Social Service Specialist II plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of Delaware citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.

As a key member of the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) team, the incumbent is responsible for interviewing clients or families, conducting financial assessments, reviewing cases for referrals, and documenting data.

The role involves assisting clients with form completion, ensuring they meet their responsibilities, and referring them to appropriate agencies. The incumbent also schedules appointments, coordinates services, and responds to inquiries from agencies, clients, and courts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interview clients, review cases, and compile information to complete necessary forms and data sheets.
  • Assist clients and/or refer them to appropriate agencies and resources.
  • Maintain, log, document, and record informational records and statistical reports.
  • Answer inquiries and provide information to agencies, clients, and other appropriate sources.
  • May supervise clients whose probation/parole is for minor crimes.
  • Assist in establishing appropriate client behavior by guiding, directing, and influencing patients, clients, and/or families.
  • May conduct follow-up by verifying information through phone contact, personal interview, and/or computer screening.
  • Prepare appropriate information, make recommendations, and assist in the facilitation of processing cases for completion, resolution, and/or service provision.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have six months of experience in health or human services support, record keeping, applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures, and using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire, and report on data.
