Adjunct Instructor for Medical Coding

Overview of Responsibilities: Under general oversight, the instructor develops comprehensive lesson plans for delivering accredited technical and vocational courses. This includes creating standardized course outlines utilizing a provided framework and assessing students' achievements in meeting established academic standards. The instructor is responsible for maintaining all necessary documentation and administrative records, and participating in professional development opportunities as required for online course facilitation.

The role involves teaching medical coding courses that reflect industry practices while staying updated on current trends and advancements in the field. Instruction encompasses cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains of medical coding. The instructor will evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes to foster continuous improvement and success, reporting findings to the program director.

Essential Qualifications:

A diploma in a health-related discipline from an accredited institution. Valid certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Medical Coder (CMC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). A minimum of two (2) years of experience in medical billing, coding, and insurance within the last five (5) years.

Desirable Qualifications:

Diploma or Associate's degree in medical records administration, medical coding, or medical billing and insurance. Experience teaching in a Health Science-related discipline at the postsecondary level. Familiarity with Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) for instructional delivery.

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with relevant accrediting organizations. Faculty must meet credentialing requirements set forth by appropriate accrediting bodies for the assigned courses.
