Overview: The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the various activities within the facility, including meat production, sanitation, and distribution, either directly or through subordinate staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure complete satisfaction of distributors and customers.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the first shift manufacturing team.
  • Lead and guide subordinates involved in production, sanitation, cooking, and chilling processes.
  • Develop and maintain a high-performing supervisory team.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Foster effective production teams and promote team-building initiatives.
  • Guarantee that all production targets are achieved.
  • Continuously analyze operations to enhance cost efficiency, quality, and service.
  • Build and nurture relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in the long-term planning and strategic initiatives of the facility.
  • Set personal and operational goals.
  • Support and manage departmental functions including Production Scheduling, Purchasing, Shipping and Receiving, Area Sanitation, Heat Processing, and Product Chilling.
  • Assist in the training and development of all employees, particularly Supervisors and Lead Persons.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitary, quality, and consistency standards within the area of responsibility.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of Total Quality Management (TQM) processes.
  • Drive goal achievement within the area of responsibility.
  • Oversee and enforce the Safety Program within the department.
  • Engage in the capital expenditure requisitioning process, budgeting, and goal setting.
  • Ensure that preventive maintenance is conducted on all departmental equipment.
  • Enforce all company rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Oversee first shift support groups such as security, human resources, quality systems, maintenance, distribution, and first aid to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Manage timekeeping and payroll distribution for the first shift.
  • Collaborate with the second night manager on chemical control and budget management.
  • Participate in daily staff meetings and lead the daily supervisors' meeting.
  • Ensure a seamless communication system is established between shifts.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge is required.
  • Five to seven years of relevant industry experience is necessary, preferably in food plant sanitation, smokehouse operations, and meat-processing production.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance, Total Quality Management (TQM), Hazard Analysis Control Critical Process (HACCP), and Safety is advantageous.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
