Job Overview
Are you ready to join the Un-carrier movement?
As a Systems Design Engineer, you will join a team that supports transport engineering and design for cell site backhaul projects. Your role will involve crafting, analyzing, validating and deploying hardware, software, and/or other Technology/Network solutions to maintain, improve, and evolve the T-Mobile network and systems. You will work on various projects, such as backhaul for new site builds, bandwidth upgrades for existing cell sites, and traffic migrations to new MSOs. You will also develop and maintain designs for the network, applications, data centers, connectivity, validation systems, monitoring systems, reporting systems and engineering tools with an ability to automate repeatable tasks by using network knowledge and computing automation skills. Your goal is to find creative solutions to improve reliability, performance, and efficiency while limiting costs and time to market. You will have the autonomy to evaluate and translate requirements into designs, evaluate design benefits and tradeoffs, validate design compliance, support deployment of the design to ensure the requirements were met and build and manage automation systems to ensure changes improve performance.

Job Responsibilities:

Innovation, Technical System Expertise and Engineering Services:
  • Presents new insights which improve an existing system/process/service for the network and systems (example: Nokia routers, Cisco technology, etc).
  • Independently complete engineering and design tasks for cell site backhaul deployment.
  • Support projects related to backhaul for new cell site development and upgrade cell site backhaul for existing cell sites
  • Question and express new perspectives based on thorough study of the industry trends and benefits. Review current company processes, highlight questions, and explore process refinement.
  • Complete appropriate network designs by leveraging an understanding system protocols, how systems operate, data flows, building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete design work. Independent study of current technology is encouraged.

Technical Writing and Communication:
  • Maintains knowledge of existing technology documents. Writes basic documentation on how technology works. Contributes clear documentation on systems used. Able to detail systems designs and business requirements. Provides technical data for incorporation into internal presentations.
  • Technical Leadership: Collaborates with technical teams and applies system expertise to communicate and deliver technical solutions. Continuously learns and can demonstrate a detailed understanding of new technologies to guide associate level engineers and interact efficiently with multi-functional teams.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering/Computer Science (Required) or equivalent experience

Work Experience:
  • 2-4 years Technical engineering experience in enterprise scale network/transport/ethernet environments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience in IP and Ethernet backhaul designs (Routers, NNIs, VLANs, IP Address scheme).
  • Experience with Ericsson Adaptive Inventory (EAI) or similar engineering database.
  • Experience with Nokia or Cisco Routers
  • Teamwork: Ability and desire to work cooperatively with others on a team. (Required)
  • Communication: The ability to ensure that information is passed on to others who should be kept informed. Express oneself clearly in conversations and interactions with others. Clear business and technical writing skills. (Required)

Licenses and Certifications:
  • CCNA or equivalent certification would be a plus

Base Pay Range: $74,400 - $134,100

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
