FUNCTION: Assists in the day-to-day operations of the Slaughter Maintenance Department as needed for general up keep and maintenance of plant operations. This includes but is not limited to the assistance of all areas of the plant, ensuring all aspects of the operation are being adhered to as required by safety and company policies. Must have a working knowledge of the mechanical field with emphasis on troubleshooting, installation of new equipment, repairs and upkeep of existing equipment.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures that all aspects of the company safety policy and procedures are adhered to in the direct and indirect areas of the plantOn a daily basis fills out all safety documentation as requiredMonitors and affirms that all safety policy and procedures are adhered toEnsures that proper corrective action is taken for violation of any safety infraction observedEnsures that good housekeeping and safe work practices are followedDirects assigned employees in the performance of approved maintenance work and production operationsRecords progress of jobs scheduled and ensures that daily time distribution of employees are properly recorded and reportedProvides immediate response and service to emergency needs in Slaughter Maintenance areaAssigns mechanics at the start of and throughout the shift, specific jobs, preventive maintenance, planned work orders and associated maintenance needsInstructs mechanics in the best job methods, materials, tools and equipment required for assigned workWorks closely with Supervisors and Peers on all assigned work schedulesAdvises peers of variances from the status of the daily work scheduleDetermines with peers the best methods, materials, tools, and equipment to be used in accomplishing specific jobsRecommends equipment to be included in the preventive maintenance program. Assists the Superintendent in developing stocking requirements for spare partsEnsures overtime approval with peers prior to shift scheduleAdheres , as closely as possible, to the daily work schedules without wasting manpower or materialsMeets work specifications and quality work standards for each jobPerforms all tasks assign by peersEnsures that conduct of personnel assigned with respect to company policy and work rules are adhered.Co-ordinates his efforts with other shift supervisors in Rendering Maintenance area to provide orderly shift change overEnsures general mechanics are trained in order to maintain and improve skill levelIndoctrinates new personnel and advises Superintendent of training needsAdvises superiors and other appropriate members of the engineering department of equipment failure or items requiring excessive maintenanceEnsures on modification or change are made without a valid work order; advises details of changesSeeks ways to promote conservation of energyProvides technical assistance to production department on how to best and economically operate equipmentInsures that all aspects of the food safety, HAACP and Government programs are adhered to with emphasis on the continued compliance to these programsWORKING CONDITIONS:Physical demands of the position may include a great deal of walking and stair climbingTemperature in work area varies depending on where employee is workingMust be able to work extended hours as required by peersPotential hazards in work area may include knives, machinery, electricity, ammonia, hydraulics and forklift trafficREQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION:Minimum of High School diploma, GED or equivalent With technical skill training in the mechanical areaEXPERIENCE:Minimum of 3-5 years background experience in general industrial maintenanceSPECIAL SKILLS:Must have background knowledge in electrical, hydraulic, welding and some PLC trainingMust be able to read and comprehend all equipment literature that applies to areaEOE/M/F/Vet/Disabled
