FUNCTION:

Supports the daily functions of the Slaughter Maintenance Division as necessary for the overall upkeep and servicing of facility operations.

This encompasses, but is not limited to, aiding all sectors of the facility, ensuring compliance with all operational standards as dictated by safety and corporate policies.

A solid understanding of the mechanical domain is essential, particularly in troubleshooting, the installation of new machinery, repairs, and the maintenance of existing equipment.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures strict adherence to all facets of the corporate safety policies and procedures in both direct and indirect areas of the facility
Completes all safety documentation daily as required
Monitors compliance with safety policies and procedures
Takes appropriate corrective measures for any observed safety violations
Maintains high standards of cleanliness and safe working practices
Oversees assigned personnel in executing approved maintenance tasks and production activities
Records job progress and ensures accurate daily time reporting for employees
Provides prompt response and service to urgent needs in the Slaughter Maintenance sector
Assigns mechanics specific tasks, preventive maintenance, planned work orders, and related maintenance requirements at the beginning and throughout the shift
Guides mechanics on optimal job methods, materials, tools, and equipment necessary for assigned tasks
Collaborates closely with Supervisors and Colleagues on all assigned work schedules
Informs colleagues of any discrepancies from the daily work schedule
Determines, in conjunction with colleagues, the most effective methods, materials, tools, and equipment for completing specific tasks
Recommends machinery for inclusion in the preventive maintenance program and assists the Superintendent in establishing spare parts stocking requirements
Secures overtime approval from colleagues prior to scheduling
Strives to adhere to daily work schedules while minimizing waste of manpower or materials
Meets job specifications and quality standards for each task
Completes all tasks assigned by colleagues
Ensures compliance with company policies and work rules by assigned personnel
Coordinates efforts with other shift supervisors in the Maintenance sector to facilitate smooth shift transitions
Ensures general mechanics receive training to maintain and enhance skill levels
Onboards new personnel and informs the Superintendent of training needs
Notifies superiors and relevant members of the engineering department regarding equipment failures or items requiring excessive maintenance
Ensures modifications or changes are made only with a valid work order; communicates details of changes
Seeks opportunities to promote energy conservation
Provides technical guidance to the production department on the most efficient and economical operation of equipment
Ensures compliance with all aspects of food safety, HAACP, and Government programs, with a focus on ongoing adherence to these standards

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical demands of the role may involve significant walking and climbing stairs

Temperature in the work environment varies based on the specific area of operation

Must be available to work extended hours as required by colleagues

Potential hazards in the work environment may include knives, machinery, electricity, ammonia, hydraulics, and forklift traffic

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:
Minimum of a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent with technical training in the mechanical field

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in general industrial maintenance

SPECIAL SKILLS:
Must possess knowledge in electrical, hydraulic, welding, and some PLC training
Must be able to read and understand all relevant equipment literature pertaining to the area
