The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced, highly skilled professional to become a member of the Boeing Digital Avionics team. We are rapidly expanding our Digital Avionics development team consisting of engineers passionate in developing trusted, high assurance FPGA devices for advance Commercial and Military Avionics Systems. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to choose from one of our three Boeing AvionX locations: Phoenix Arizona area (Mesa), Dallas Texas area (Plano), or St Louis Missouri area (Hazelwood).

We are seeking Mid-Level, Lead or Senior Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Project Engineers who are ambitious and will thrive in an advance technology development environment. You will help develop early adopter technology rapidly for insertion in our ruggedized and robust Avionics solutions. Our hands-on FPGA project engineers drive all FPGA development execution activities by utilizing their FPGA technical knowledge, foresight, analytical, project management, and communication skills in executing their role in these high career profile technical leadership roles. You will leverage your skills and capabilities in all areas of the development lifecycle to include program bid and proposals, IRAD technology development, and FPGA flight hardware development and productization.

Our team of engineers leverage leading-edge technology and work with world-class partners to develop solutions using some of the most advance SoCs in the world. We develop robust, high-performance custom digital processing technologies to enable high-integrity, low SWAP-C Avionics. We utilize the latest digital IC development processes with industry-best tools to produce the most trusted and cyber secure digital solutions for our Avionics customers.

Our focused Avionics center of excellence development group produces advance digital solutions for multiple manned and unmanned aircraft. Our extensive portfolio of products provides opportunities to learn and grow with exposure to the breadth of the Boeing Avionics products.

As an FPGA Engineer on the Boeing AvionX team, you will manage and coordinate a team developing state-of-the-art digital ICs/SoCs to support the most critical programs across the Boeing Commercial and Defense enterprise. We also collaborate with other electronics groups across the company and around the world.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform Project Management of digital IC designs, including multi-IC programs and teams with design and verification engineers, and manage team execution to meet program milestones
  • Collaborate with customers, system engineers, and hardware engineers to drive requirements capture and architect digital logic functions to meet mission/customer needs
  • Explore trade-space of potential ASIC/FPGA technologies and determine the optimal parts, weighing Schedule, Cost, Risk, Area, Power (SCRAP) vs. performance
  • Drive robustness and rigor into early adopter technology solutions that lack sufficient level of capability for use in high assurance / safety critical Avionics solutions
  • Present to and engage with Boeing leadership at all levels (non-executive and executive leadership) in support of business pursuits, project status, and advance technology development proposals/status
  • Drive FPGA-based prototyping and validation depending on program and system requirements and complexity
  • Contribute to continuously improving upon our Project Management processes and methods to keep pace with the latest technologies


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 3+ years' experience working with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA)
  • 3+ years' experience working with digital ASIC/FPGA verification/simulation
  • 3+ years' project engineering experience


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience leading ASIC/FPGA design and/or verification teams, including tracking and reporting progress to stakeholders
  • Experience with supporting an FPGA or ASIC DO-254 Design Assurance level A or B development process
  • Experience with Project/Program Management processes and methods for supporting bid and proposals, earned value management, BOEs, IMS, WBS
  • Experience creating development planning documents such as Project/Program Plan, FPGA Development Plan, Verification Development Plan
  • Experience with Version Control or Production Release Systems: Git, ClearCase and Teamcenter
  • Experience with Aircraft Avionic Systems
  • Prior Military Experience
  • Pilot Experience

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Lead (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 5):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range for Mid-Level: $97,750 - $141,450

Summary pay range for Lead Level: $118,150 - $171,350

Summary pay range for Senior Level: $145,350 - $210,450
