The Principal Wireless Engineer I - 5G Core Network is responsible for integration testing, troubleshooting and certification of 5G Core network systems. This Engineer plays a key role in certification of all 5G Core network systems and report issues to development teams and vendors.
  • Requires full understanding of 3GPP standards, 5G call flows and good hands on experience in troubleshooting core subsystem elements: NR-RAN, AMF, PCF, SMF, CHF, AUSF, UDM, UDR, NRF UPF, CBRS, Mediation platforms etc.
  • Must also have knowledge in Network Routers, Switches, Gateways, Firewalls, Docker containers and Kubernetes.
  • Will collaborate with Vendors, internal Network Architects and Product Development teams as required.
  • This position primarily works in lab environment during testing, recreating issues and troubleshooting lab and field reported tickets.

As a Principal Wireless Engineer I on the Wireless System Test & Certification team you will be responsible for providing technology leadership for the development of wireless access technologies including WiFi and mobile, RF engineering design, and deployment support. Drive the wireless technology roadmap with stakeholders, i.e. product, engineering and operations as well as vendors and partners. Responsible for defining and developing Charter's wireless access technology architecture and driving the implementation of this unified Charter solution, allowing wireless access for customers.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • Technology Development & Management - 10+ years
    • Technology management experience working with the top MSOs, Telco, satellite operators or major wireless vendor in the U.S. - 5+ years
  • Education: BSEE in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Technical skills:
    • Knowledge in wireless access technologies including WiFi, 4G-LTE, familiar with 5G and a clear track record of excellence managing the wireless access engineering systems within an organization of a well-known media brand
    • Hands-on experience with a broad range of wireless access technologies including WiFi, 4G-LTE and IoT as well as competency with key networking elements such as routing, switching, and security
    • Demonstrated technology expertise, proven leadership skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, superb technical skills, and a strong customer-service orientation
    • Familiarity with the CPE Wireless Gateway and Router designs and roadmap plans for all major Operators in the U.S
    • Operational experience with WiFi and 4G-LTE
  • Skills: Demonstrated project management experience
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
    • Ability to lead complex projects working with a matrix team of engineers at junior and senior levels across the different Engineering Organizations
    • Ability to communicate with all levels of management
    • Ability to manage and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
    • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
    • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and electronically

    • This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days


Preferred Qualifications
  • Should have excellent knowledge in Testing and Troubleshooting 5G Mobile Wireless core Networks or equivalent in similar telecom industry.
  • Excellent knowledge in virtualization platforms, Dockers and Kubernetes, 2-3 years.
  • Hands on experience using protocol communications test equipment and test tools.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting IP core network and E2E call flows.
  • Must possess excellent industry knowledge and theoretical understanding of 3GPP, IEEE 802.11
  • Experience with testing all Layers 1 thru 7 networks
  • Knowledgeable with bug tracking and ticketing systems like Jira, Remedy etc.

The pay for this position has a salary range of $110,800.00 to $196,400.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
