Responsibilities

Provides a basic level of patient care to include obtaining vital signs and patient history documenting chief complaint and all actions taken alerting the physician of problems / concerns / abnormalities performing simple patient procedures obtaining lab specimen and fills out requisitions completely and accurately setting up exam/procedure rooms including instruments for minor procedures preparing and may include administrating medications (excluding IV) under direct supervision of a physician.

  • Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol
  • Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested
  • Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies
  • Assists in patient/equipment preparation
  • Performs follow-up actions as directed
  • Completes hospital forms per protocol
  • Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols
  • Monitors and records patient vital signs, weight, positioning, ADL's I&O activity and blood glucose readings per RN instructions, hospital protocols, and standards of care
  • Records readings in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assists with patient admission, discharge and transfer

Qualifications

MINIMUM

High School Diploma or G.E.D. and a graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program. Candidates who completed a program prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing evidence of direct supervision by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours to satisfy the minimum education requirements.

Demonstrated experience with computer program utilized for checking-in and scheduling patients required.

American Heart Association BLS

Previous MA experience 

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience 

Previous experience in designated specialty
