Housing Assistant is responsible to help meet the housing needs for newly-arrived refugees to the US by preparing housing units to be move-in ready. Plus, arranging for someone to welcome them to St. Louis at the airport and transport the refugees to their new home.

Duties/Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Set up housing with furniture and other needed items;
  • Provide transportation for new arrivals; including airport pickups as assigned
  • Report any identified housing issues;
  • Document all client related activities in electronic client file;
  • Keep supervisor informed of daily activities
  • Performing other assigned duties as necessary for the successful operation of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects and consistently meet deadlines;
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities;
  • Proficient with Microsoft operating system and MS Office suite.

Other

  • Fluency in a language spoken by the current refugee population is strongly preferred (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Nepali, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Somali);
  • Appropriate availability consistent with organization established practices and norms; hours not to exceed 40 hours per week without prior supervisor authorization;
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to pass a standard background check;
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and clean driving record with access to reliable vehicle;
  • Willingness to obtain a Missouri Chauffeur license.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience in related discipline;
  • Experience in social services or related field preferred

Environment

This position requires the ability to work in a stationary position for several hours at a time and the ability to move up to 40 pounds, occasionally. Some filing is required. The work environment is an air-conditioned, smokefree, office environment and working outside for housing set-ups. This position requires frequent local, day travel up to xx% of the time.
