The Associate Director (AD) is a senior member of the central office staff for the Office of Housing and Residence Life. The AD must be a detail-oriented, and highly collaborative leader and must demonstrate knowledge of the full range of Housing and Residence Life functions including but not limited to: facilities administration, planning, project management, budgeting, personnel management, marketing, contract administration, information system management, and the understanding of network computer operations. The Associate Director is highly involved in the oversight and assessment of a comprehensive housing and residence life program for approximately 2100 students (there is a 3 year residential requirement for undergraduate students and we house roughly 300 seniors and over 100 graduate students) with a live-on director, associate director and assistant director, live-on Community Directors, and resident advisor student staff. The residential system currently includes 7 traditional halls, 3 suite style apartment areas, 27 houses and 13 apartments. This position is a live on required position and is provided with a single-family college owned house near campus.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary contact and liaison with the Department of Facilities and Campus Services with responsibility for assisting in the coordination of the creation and dissemination of communications about: opening and closing of residence halls, break housing, early arrival housing, and room and building inspections; review of housing furniture needs and proposed residence hall renovations. Provide leadership to and coordinate all aspects of college owned off-campus graduate housing.  Manage all aspects of room selection processes and housing assignments for new and returning graduate students; Collect, maintain, update and track graduate student housing data and create reports; Oversee all housing and residence life related billing, including but not limited to weekly auditing of charges, communications with the business office, damage billing process and appeals; Manage professional staff recruitment and selection processes; Manage professional staff training; Perform related work as assigned related to but not limited to the position. Recruit, select, train and provide ongoing direct supervision and development for full time Community Directors. In consultation with the Director, manage crisis situations and develop appropriate protocols and train staff on protocols on an on-going basis, including issues such as mental health, physical health, public safety, and facilities emergencies, in collaboration with appropriate campus partners. Participate in the centralized on-call administrative duty rotation schedule. Provide leadership in the development of new programs that create a diverse community and foster retention in the residence halls. Work with the full complement of housing and residence life staff to create, implement and assess a residential engagement model with appropriate developmental outcomes for assigned residential areas.  Support on-going departmental program review efforts including ACUHO-I external review as well as regularly scheduled CAS Standards' self-studies. Assemble data from various sources; survey, research and analyze trends in processes for student housing and make recommendations for policies, processes and occupancy. Serve as a community standards hearing officer for incidents within residential communities.

Qualifications

Master’s degree required in student affairs, counseling, higher education or a related field with 5-8 years of directly related experience.
Experience supervising and managing people and teams required.

Demonstrated experience successfully managing people and teams, engaging students in the creation of highly-interactive living-learning communities and proven ability to involve students across class years, as well as faculty and staff in the creation of vibrant residential communities
Superior communication, organizational, management and financial skills as well as an unwavering commitment to student development and customer service required
The ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, parents, faculty and academic partners, student affairs colleagues, College administrators, and other stakeholders is a must
Familiarity with ACUHO-I Standards and Ethical Principles
Preference will be given to those candidates who have supervised full-time, live-in staff
