Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Housing Operations supports the Director of Housing and Residential Programming in managing housing assignments, coordinating camps and conferences, overseeing facilities, and executing marketing strategies. This role ensures the smooth operation of housing logistics and contributes to the overall residential experience for students.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists in managing the housing assignment process, including room selection, roommate matching, and reassignments.
  • Coordinates logistics for camps and conferences, including housing arrangements, check-in/check-out processes, and facility usage.
  • Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of residential facilities in collaboration with the Facilities Department, ensuring all work orders and repair requests are addressed promptly.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies to promote on-campus housing, including creating promotional materials and managing social media content.
  • Supports the Director of Housing and Residential Programming with data analysis and reporting on housing occupancy, trends, and student satisfaction.
  • Facilitates communication between students, parents, and university departments regarding housing inquiries and concerns.
  • Assists with the planning and execution of housing-related events, such as move-in/move-out days, orientation, and open houses.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of housing assignments, contracts, and payments.
  • Provides training and support to housing staff, including Resident Assistants and Community Assistants, on housing policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans for residential facilities.
  • Direct, live-on supervision of apartment-style residential facilities, including corresponding with students concerning housing matters, serving as a liaison between the students and administration, and the general and specific conditions of the hall, rooms, and common areas.
  • Corresponds with the Housing Office and Facilities Department concerning maintenance repair requests, work orders and following proper procedure.
  • Supervises student staff (Resident or Community Assistants) in conjunction with serving as a liaison and resource for residential students.
  • Co-supervises entire residential student staff of approximately 29 students; conducts weekly and monthly staff meetings and individual meetings with staff members as needed.
  • Assists with the Resident Assistant/Community Assistant selection process and training programs (fall, spring, ongoing).
  • Assists with the general and administrative activities for the Housing and Residence Life Office, including: the opening/closing of the residences for all break periods; social and educational programming in residential areas which is conducive to student safety, community engagement, and academic success; input to use in making policy decisions and implementation of policies and programs initiated from the Student Affairs Division; administering Health & Safety Checks for all residential units; and maintaining RD, RA, and CA training and operational manuals. Maintains administrative and informational records.
  • Meets individually with residents as needed for personal, academic, or discipline issues and assists in conflict resolution. Educates staff and students to self-enforce policies and respect the rights of others through community standards.
  • Assist with student conduct meetings and implementing appropriate educational programming and sanctions for policy violations.
  • Supports the university’s philosophy and its policies; represents the university in a positive manner.
  • On-call responsibilities as required in coordination with the Residence Life Office staff.
  • Serves on other departmental and staff committees as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Two years of related experience in housing operations, student affairs, or a similar field.
  • Experience in managing housing assignments and coordinating large-scale events is highly desirable.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Director of Housing and Residential Programs, supervises RAs, CAs, and any other student staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
