POSITION GOAL:
The Academic and Career and Technical Education Coordinator assists the Director of Career and Technical Education in fulfilling his/her responsibilities as an educational leader.
The Academic and Career and Technical Education Coordinator will work with administrators, teachers, students and parents to ensure that the Career and Technical Education (CTE), Chapter 74 (Ref: M.G.L. C. 74, Sec. 4.05.2), and NonChapter 74 Career Pathways programs offered throughout the District maintain relevant course offerings and open communication with school communities, and ensure that students master all competencies necessary to obtain a diploma along with a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Instructional Leadership
The education leader promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of ail staff by cultivating a shared vision that makes powerful teaching and learning the central focus of schooling.
- Evaluates, with the Director on an on-going basis, all Career and Technical Education curricula, program housekeeping methods, and program adherence to all safety regulations.
- Develops, coordinates and monitors curricular integration between academic and career and technical education programs, including all CTE, Chapter 74, and Non-Chapter 74 Career pathway programs.
- Coordinates, with guidance staff, the assessment of all incoming Career and Technical Education students.
- Assists in implementing a formal student career plan as an integral part of a comprehensive guidance system.
- Assists with the development, management, and administration of the Cooperative Education program according to M.G.L. Chapter 74, Section 4.09.
- Coordinates and supervises CTE teachers in implementing the strands and standards of the Career and Vocational Technical Education Frameworks.
- Assist the Director of Career and Technical Education with staff evaluations. Meet regularly with instructors whose work is deficient and work with the teacher(s) to correct deficiencies.
- Assists with the supervision of all CTE support staff as designated by the Director of Career and Technical Education.
- Management and Operations
- Participate in the hiring process for new instructors in the department.
- Develops, coordinates, and supervises all CTE in-service training and professional development.
- Instruct daily substitutes who may be assigned to the Career and Technical Education programs and observe and evaluate their work.
- Assists with ensuring adherence to all OSHA and other safety and health standards and guidelines set by various safety organizations as well as state and local codes and regulations, as a minimum.
- Assists with establishing and conducting a program of inspection and maintenance of machinery, equipment, tools and CTE lab facilities.
- Serves as a coach for the High Schools That Work initiative, including responsibility for the administration of the High Schools That Work Senior Assessment.
- Assists the Director of CTE in developing and monitoring all CTE grants including, but not limited to, the Carl Perkins Grant.
- Collects and organizes all data necessary for the accurate and timely completion of all state and federal reports.
Promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff through effective partnerships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders that support the mission of the school and district.
- Attends before-school, after-school, and evening meetings, including School Committee meetings, when requested.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- DESE certification as Vocational Supervisor/Director, Supervisor/Academic, or Principal/Assistant Principal
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- At least three years teaching experience at the secondary level.
- Membership in professional academic and career and technical association(s) preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to implement Chapter 74 and occupational education regulations and to prepare state and federal reports.
- Knowledge of OSHA and other safety and health standards and guidelines and state and local codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of how to evaluate and make teacher recommendations for teacher performance.
- Knowledge of best pedagogical practices and the ability to work with instructors to make appropriate changes in their classrooms and labs as needed.

*Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. *Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, invoices, requisitions, menus, recipes, journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, procedures, charts, surveys, articles, bid specifications, brochures, news releases, handbooks, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
*Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
*Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, accounting and marketing terminology.
*Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra and geometry.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
*Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
*Interpersonal: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.
