Tom Wood Volkswagen, in Indianapolis, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Automotive Service Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive repair and maintenance, as well as excellent leadership and customer service skills. As the Automotive Service Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our service department and ensuring that our customers receive top-notch service.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of automotive technicians and service advisors to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve performance goals. Hire, train, and supervise service technicians and support staff.
  • Coordinate service appointments, allocate work assignments, and ensure timely completion of repairs to meet customer expectations and service deadlines. Manage day-to-day operations of the service department, including scheduling and workflow management.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure all repairs and maintenance services meet manufacturer standards and regulatory requirements. Monitor service quality and customer satisfaction and address any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Monitor inventory levels of automotive parts and supplies, place orders as needed and maintain accurate records to optimize inventory turnover and minimize stock shortages. Maintain accurate records of service and repair activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers by addressing their concerns, providing accurate service estimates, and recommending appropriate maintenance and repair solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to technicians on complex diagnostic and repair issues, ensuring accurate problem identification and resolution.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor expenses, and implement cost-saving initiatives to maximize profitability. Develop and implement strategies to increase service department revenue.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations to create a safe working environment for employees and customers.
  • Identify training needs, conduct performance evaluations, and facilitate ongoing training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of service department personnel. Hold morning team meetings with updates on monthly metrics and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with the service team.
  • Stay current on industry trends and developments and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in automotive service management or a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced service center environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve performance targets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, employees, and vendors.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostic procedures, and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency in automotive service software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, and profit optimization strategies.
