ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world's greatest crises in partnership with the church. POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief seeks a Cultural Orientation Specialist who will be responsible for conducting cultural orientations with each newly arriving refugee family. These orientations include topics such as the role of World Relief, budgeting and personal finance, housing, and transportation. This position will conduct assessments with each family after they receive all components of their orientation to assess comprehension as well as identify areas of curriculum improvement.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Client Services
    • Schedule and conduct multiple session cultural orientations, done within an office or home setting, within the first 75 days of arrival for each newly arriving refugee family
    • Arrange for transportation and interpretation as necessary for each scheduled cultural orientation training session
    • Assist with transportation needs of class participants as needed
    • Arrange for the completion of a public transit system orientation with families who live in areas with access to public transportation
    • Conduct a cultural orientation assessment with each adult refugee prior to their 90th day after arrivals
    • Based on cultural orientation assessment results, identify consistent areas of needed comprehension improvement, and develop plans to increase comprehension in areas identified as needing improvement
    • Collaborate with appropriate WR staff around service provision as necessary
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Planning, Reporting, and Administrative Responsibilities
    • Maintain accurate records of client files, case notes, new providers, use of interpretation, and reporting records
    • Complete program-required forms within specified time frames, ensuring that forms are accurately recorded and filed
    • Actively participate in department meetings, staff development opportunities, program trainings, community activities, and organizational events
    • Coordinate with other departments of World Relief and outside agencies/organizations to provide cultural adjustment services to clients as needed
    • Provide training and collaboration with volunteers who assist in cultural orientation delivery
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    • Mature and personal Christian faith
    • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
    • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
    • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
    • Strong oral and written English communication ability
    • Cross-cultural experience and/or extensive experience working with refugee/immigrant populations required
    • Demonstrated teaching and coaching skills with the ability to provide ongoing orientation to refugee participants
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records
    • MS Office skills required
    • Valid driver's license, and ability/willingness to drive 15-passenger van required
    • Ability to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends as necessary
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Demonstrated compassion, patience, and cross-cultural sensitivity
    • Fluency in additional language such as Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French or Spanish strongly preferred
    • Highly self-motivated with strong follow-through and ability to work independently
    • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with a team of service providers to help clients
    • Ability to appropriately handle conflict and willingness to engage in mediation with clients
    • Comfortable working in a team environment


$20 - $23 an hour

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
