Job Title: Early Childhood Special Education Speech and Language Pathologist

Location: Watertown Mayer Public School District, Watertown, MN 55388

Job Summary: The Early Childhood Special Education Speech and Language Pathologist will play a pivotal role in providing specialized speech and language services to children aged 3 to 5 with developmental delays or disabilities within a school-based setting. Additionally, the candidate will extend their expertise to support birth to 3-year-old students in their homes, as well as a small percentage of young adults (18+) in a school-based environment. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, the Speech and Language Pathologist will conduct comprehensive assessments, facilitate diagnoses, and design individualized intervention plans tailored to enhance children's communication and language development.

Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments to evaluate children's communication skills, including receptive and expressive language, articulation, phonology, fluency, and pragmatics.
  2. Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including parents/guardians, teachers, occupational therapists, and other related service providers.
  3. Provide direct speech and language therapy services to children in individual or small group settings, targeting identified areas of need outlined in the IEP goals.
  4. Implement evidence-based intervention strategies and therapeutic activities to improve children's communication skills, including speech production, language comprehension, vocabulary development, and social communication.
  5. Monitor and document children's progress towards IEP goals through ongoing assessment, data collection, and progress monitoring.
  6. Collaborate with teachers and support staff to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom environment and daily routines.
  7. Provide consultation and training to teachers, parents/guardians, and other team members on strategies to support children's communication and language development in the classroom and home environments.
  8. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, eligibility evaluations, and transition planning for children transitioning into or out of early childhood special education services.
  9. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessment results, therapy sessions, progress reports, and communication with families and other team members.
  10. Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and evidence-based interventions in the field of speech-language pathology and early childhood special education.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Experience working with young children with developmental delays or disabilities, preferably in an early childhood special education setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in speech-language pathology, including assessment, intervention, and progress monitoring.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with children, families, teachers, and other professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
