The proposed AmeriCorps Encore program Caring Circles, will offer solutions to isolated older adults as they continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and build healthy futures with greater access to care and increased ability to age in place. AmeriCorps Members and community volunteers will work to improve self-sufficiency, health outcomes, and reduce social isolation by increasing access to technology among vulnerable older adults. Members and volunteers will also assist isolated and homebound older adults in learning how to access nutritious food and household supplies, make social connections, provide support and companionship and ease loneliness.
Member Duties : Caring Circles members will serve 1000 older adults in Maricopa County and focus on the CNCS priority areas of COVID-19 community recovery and reduction and/or prevention of drug and opioid abuse as a Healthy Futures initiative, while building capacity in the population of vulnerable older adults to access food, supplies and companionship through services that promote Aging in Place and Access to Care.
