POSITION TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master's Degree in Speech Pathology or WV Professional Support Certificate endorsed
for Speech Language Pathologist; and
2. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-
10, as appropriate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Minimum 210 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by the Mingo County Board of Education
Salary: Salary based on experience and education level per MCBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and Mingo County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.

JOB SUMMARY: Provide identification, planning, and delivery of speech-language-hearing program
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides leadership and support in the identification of speech and language
impairments;
2. Provides leadership and support in planning and delivery of the Speech-LanguageHearing Program;
3. Maintains professional work habits;
4. Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills in order to improve services for
students;
5. Plans, prepares, and implements new programs or facilities change in the existing
program;
6. Gathers and interprets data for individuals, groups, or programs;
7. Collaborates with school personnel and/or parents to coordinate the delivery of services
to students or others;
8. Serves as consultant to classroom teachers when assigned to School Based Assistance
Team or when requested by Director of Special Education or principal;
9. Completes screening of pupils as member or chairman of a school screening team when
assigned;
10. Helps with evaluation and re-evaluation of pupils as assigned;
11. Participates in Eligibility Committee meetings and individualized education program (IEP) meetings as appropriate;
12. Completes individualized educational programs for all pupils served in their program by
date of review;
13. Maintains a notebook on pupils enrolled in her/his program that includes a copy of the
individualized education program;
14. Maintains data related to assessment of individualized education program objective;
15. Delivers speech, language, and hearing screening and diagnostic services;
16. Selects pupils with significant communication problems for placement in speech and
language therapy. Selection is based on a complete evaluation, written report and
eligibility meeting;
17. Develops a plan for provision of appropriate therapeutic services to meet the needs of the pupils to be enrolled;
18. Consults with classroom teachers, principals, and other professionals and conveys
pertinent information to them;
19. Plans and conducts parent conferences which would include providing information,
support, and counseling, when appropriate;
20. Provides appropriate follow up procedure on pupils dismissed from therapy;
21. Reviews all relevant files on pupils;
22. Uses appropriate and efficient record keeping and evaluation systems;
23. Refers pupils to cognizant personnel;
24. Checks quality/distortion of hearing aids on weekly basis;
25. Serves as liaison with an audiologist if needed;
26. Maintains records and submits monthly reports for Medicaid eligible services;
27. Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mingo County School's Policy
3210; and
28. Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or
immediate supervisor(s).
NOTE: Speech Assistants will be hired when a fully certified speech pathologist is not available.

The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 pounds such as to lift files and paper.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to loud (40-90 dB) depending on the assignment of the position. The employee continuously is interacting with the public, students and staff.
