APRN residents will be held to the same clinical and academic standards as Smilow physician residents. The clinical didactic curriculum will be based upon accredited oncology APRN concentration program. APRN residents will be expected to attend weekly didactic conferences. They will also participate in a variety of didactic offerings, including journal clubs, grand rounds, tumor boards, procedure labs, and simulation training. The APRN resident will take medical histories, perform physical examinations, perform specified procedures, and develop patient treatment plans in collaboration with the APP/MD provider. The APRN resident will work primarily in Smilow Cancer Hospital (York Street Campus) but may rotate to Smilow Care Centers. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran

Responsibilities

  • 1. 1. Clinical rotations will be primarily @ Smilow Cancer Hospital (York Street Campus) but may include Smilow Care Centers. ? Hematology track: Leukemia (inpatient/ambulatory); Myeloma (inpatient/ambulatory); Lymphoma (inpatient/ambulatory); Stem Cell transplant/Cellular therapy (inpatient/ambulatory); Extended Care Clinic (ECC); Infusion, Radiation oncology; Pathology; Classical Hematology (inpatient/ambulatory); Palliative Care, and Cancer Survivorship. ? Medical Oncology track: GYN oncology (inpatient/ambulatory); Breast; Lung; GU; GI; Head/Neck; Melanoma/RCC; Neuro-oncology; Radiation Oncology; Infusion; Extended Care Clinic (ECC); Palliative Care, Cancer Survivorship, and Phase I early drug development. ? Other elective rotations will be available such as Cancer Genetics, Dermatology Oncology, Endocrine, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Cancer Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry 2. PA residents will be expected to attend weekly didactic conferences. They will also participate in a variety of didactic offerings, including journal clubs, grand rounds, tumor boards, procedure labs, and simulation training. 3. Discuss each case with APP/MD provider. 4. Provides a complete medical record on all patients provided care. 5. Practices within the policies and procedures of Smilow Cancer Hospital and the policies of departments for rotations. Performs procedures including (but not limited to) bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and urinary bladder catheterization. 6. Assignment is based on rotation schedule. 7. Provides clinical instruction to PA students and residents. 8. PA residents in collaboration with APP/MD will take medical histories, perform physical examinations, and perform specified procedures. The PA resident will work primarily in Smilow Cancer Hospital (York Street Campus) but may rotate to Smilow Care Centers.

EDUCATION

Graduation from an accredited a Nurse Practitioner program

EXPERIENCE

New graduates and experienced PA providers are encouraged to apply

LICENSURE

1. APRN required (State of Connecticut licensed/eligible) 2. Current and active certification by ANCC or AANP 3. DEA License & Connecticut Controlled Substance (CSR) license 4. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills are required. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality care appropriate to Smilow Cancer Hospital

PHYSICAL DEMAND

This is a 9-month Postgraduate Advance Practice Provider (APP) Oncology Fellowship, which is an immersive clinical program focused on preparing APPs for a career in hematology/oncology. There are (2) clinical tracks and include Hematology and Medical Oncology. The Fellowship combines a comprehensive educational curriculum with clinical training in all major hematologic and oncologic disease groups. APP Fellows will work alongside experienced APPs, MDs, and nursing colleagues to deliver world-class cancer care at an oncology center of excellence. Throughout the Fellowship, experiences will be organized around a disease-specific curriculum, and Fellows will be supported directly by mentors in each clinical setting. They will perform history and physical examinations as well as formulate differential diagnoses and management plans in collaboration with their clinical mentor. Fellows rotating through inpatient services will join teams that care for patients with varied oncologic diseases, illnesses, and complexities. The clinical didactic curriculum is based upon the content that accredited APP programs offer with a specialization for hematology and oncology. APP residents will be expected to attend weekly didactic conferences and will participate in a variety of didactic offerings, including tumor boards, journal clubs, and grand rounds. The APP resident will take medical histories, perform physical examinations, perform specified procedures, and primarily work in Ambulatory/Inpatient Hematology and Medical Oncology @ York Street Campus and some of the Smilow Care Centers.
