IGS is currently recruiting for a remote Linux Systems Administrator to support our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Assignment of Work and Travel:

This is a remote access assignment. Candidate will work remotely daily and remotely access VA systems and therein use approved VA provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.

Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Conduct routine system administration tasks and log data in system admin logs.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot a wide variety of systems and networks, including high volume/high availability systems.
  • Create plans to ensure effective management, operations, and maintenance of systems and/or networks.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and workstations.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure the availability and reliability of hardware and software.
  • Perform regular system maintenance tasks such as backups, patch management, and updates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and file systems.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices, including firewall, access control measures, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented systems and infrastructure.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or other technical-related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in Linux system administration.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux (RHEL 8.x) and Windows systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Extensive knowledge of a wide variety of systems and networks, including high volume/high availability systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, or Xen.
  • In-depth knowledge of shell scripting and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl).
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and issues identified by customers and implement corrective actions quickly.
  • Understanding of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong data analysis, database design and modeling experience
Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:
  • Active VA Public Trust Clearance.
  • Experience with VA Health Portfolio and Informatics Product Line is a plus.
  • Experience in Data Integration Modernizations and Secure Messaging is a plus.
  • Team-oriented contributor with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Background in the Department of Veterans Affairs is a plus.
