Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R)

Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination
[In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Education
Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] English Language Proficiency
DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C
7402(d), and 7407(d)
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)
Grade Determinations:Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS 10 Experience Requirement: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.( Candidate must demonstrate all the following technical knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to provide support and troubleshoot system application and hardware issues and instruct users in the proper operation of digital image processing, storage and display systems
Ability to perform VistA radiology, VistA imaging, and PACS support activities and general ADPAC duties including user access control
Ability to initiate repair requests with appropriate services or vendors
Knowledge of PACS system infrastructure and functionality
Ability to provide training to all user levels in the efficient use of imaging hardware and software of the integrated PACS system
Knowledge of specific positioning, technique, and imaging procedures so he/she will be able to perform and reconcile image information correctly and efficiently during technical post processing and evaluation

Physical Requirements: Must be able to: Lift, move or push heavy equipment, specifically cassettes, mobile x-ray equipment, stretchers and/or wheelchairs with patients in them; Assist in lifting patients who may be paralyzed, comatose or otherwise incapacitated, from stretchers or wheelchairs to x-ray tables and back; Provide physical assistance and care for patients in a timely manner in all circumstances; Reach overhead to manipulate an x-ray tube or CT injector that hangs from the ceiling.
Duties "This Diagnostic Radiologic Technician (Computerized Tomography/Interventional Radiology) position is in Diagnostic Imaging services at the Boston VA Medical Center, West Roxbury, MA campus.
This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.
Duties include but, are not limited to: Transferring patients from stretcher or wheelchair to radiographic table.
Preparing room, equipment and material needed for patient procedures.
Sterilizing prep of patients before all Interventional exams.
Observing patients during procedures and reports complications or unusual events.
Performing image acquisition in all the listed modalities, and makes any adjustments required to insure proper image quality.
Performing computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, credit of patient visits, complications and /or quality improvement activities of the Radiology Department.
Performing all daily start up and shut down procedures for the Interventional Radiology Labs.
Administering contrast material, under the direction of the radiologist, according to protocols and perform patient teaching as to the risks associated with these contrast materials.
Practicing hospital safety, radiation safety, infection control and universal precautions always in accordance with age and/or gender specific departmental procedures.
Providing education to patients and their families on Imaging procedures.
Performing clerical and file room duties related to patient care, including making outpatient appointments for each modality when needed and printing schedules.
Using bolus tracking for proper arterial tracking.
Preparing oral and injectable contrast.
Using dual head power injector.
Following prescribed protocols required to perform procedures.
Observing patients during procedures and reports complications or unusual events.
Work Schedule: 9:00am to 5:30pm or 9:30am-6:00pm Monday through Friday; This position requires on-call as part of a rotation.
